What Body Fat Percentage Do You Need to See Your Abs?

Most guys who have never had visible abs eventually start thinking they just do not have the genetics for them.

I thought the same thing for years.

I trained five or six days a week, trained my abs, lost weight multiple times, and still never had the six-pack I wanted.

So eventually I started thinking maybe I just was not built to have abs.

In reality, I had simply never gotten lean enough to find out.

You can train your abs as hard as you want, but if there is still enough body fat covering them, you are not going to see them.

How Lean Do You Actually Need to Get?

There is no exact body-fat percentage where every guy suddenly has a six-pack.

For most men, some upper-ab definition starts showing somewhere around 12–15% body fat.

Around 10–12%, the abs usually become much more obvious.

Some guys may need to get into the single digits before their lower abs really show.

The difference comes down to things like where you naturally store fat, how developed your abs are, and genetics.

Two guys can both be around 10% body fat and still look completely different.

One may already have a full six-pack.

The other may still be holding more fat around his lower stomach.

So do not obsess over whether you are exactly 10%, 11%, or 12%.

Use body-fat percentage as a general reference and pay attention to what you actually look like.

Why Do So Many Guys Never Get That Lean?

This is where I think the bigger problem is.

Most guys know they need to eat fewer calories to lose fat.

Knowing that is easy.

Actually staying in a calorie deficit long enough to get really lean is where things start falling apart.

They pick a diet that has them hungry all day.

They start cutting out every food they enjoy.

They are eating tiny meals, doing more cardio, training five or six days a week, and thinking about food constantly.

They can follow it for a while.

They lose some weight.

Then eventually they are sick of dieting and fall off before they ever get lean enough to see what they actually look like.

That was my problem for years.

I did not need another ab workout.

I needed a way of losing fat that I could actually follow long enough to finish the job.

Getting Lean Changes More Than Your Stomach

I think every guy should experience getting genuinely lean at least once.

You finally get to see the physique you have been building underneath the body fat.

Your face gets sharper.

Your shoulders, chest, and arms have more definition.

Clothes fit differently.

You feel lighter moving around.

And there is a different level of confidence that comes from finally looking in the mirror and seeing the result of all the work you have been putting in.

That was a big deal for me.

I had spent years working hard in the gym without ever actually looking the way I wanted to look.

Losing 50 pounds finally changed that.

The Built Approach

A lot of guys have way more potential than they realize.

They have just never gotten lean enough to see it.

That is exactly why I built my coaching the way I did.

The Built Approach is designed to help guys get to that Vacation Lean look without needing to live in the gym or follow some miserable diet they cannot sustain.

Knowing you need to lose fat is easy.

Staying consistent long enough to actually reveal your physique is where most guys lose the battle.

The goal is to give you a structure you can actually follow long enough to get there.
